Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

4 slices of Swiss cheese

4 slices of ham (preferably prosciutto or thick-cut deli ham)

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

½ cup vegetable oil, for frying

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper. Using a meat mallet or rolling pin, gently pound the chicken to about 1/4 inch thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

    Assemble the Cordon Bleu:

      - Lay one slice of ham on each flattened chicken breast.

        - Place one slice of Swiss cheese on top of the ham.

          - Starting from one end, tightly roll each chicken breast, encasing the ham and cheese. Secure the ends with toothpicks.

            Bread the Chicken:

              - Set up your breading station: In one shallow bowl, place the flour. In another, whisk the eggs. In a third, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt.

                - Dredge each rolled chicken piece in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, and then roll in the breadcrumb mixture until well coated.

                  Fry the Chicken:

                    - In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the chicken rolls, seam side down.

                      - Cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C). You may need to do this in batches.

                        - Once fried, transfer the rolls to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil. Remove toothpicks from the chicken before serving.

                          Serve:

                            - Slice the chicken cordon bleu in half to reveal the cheesy filling.

                              - Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side for a bright finish.
