Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk, warmed (110°F)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

For the Filling:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

For the Icing:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a mixing bowl, combine the warmed milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

      - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the melted butter and eggs to the yeast mixture, stirring gently until combined.

        - Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a sticky dough forms.

          Knead the Dough:

            - Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

              - Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

                Prepare the Filling:

                  - In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using) until well combined.

                    Roll Out the Dough:

                      - Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out on a floured surface to a rectangle about 16x24 inches thick.

                        - Spread the filling evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

                          Form the Rolls:

                            - Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.

                              - Cut the log into 12-15 equal pieces (about 1.5 inches each) and place them in a greased baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll.

                                Second Rise:

                                  - Cover the rolls with a clean towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes, or until they puff up.

                                    Bake:

                                      - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

                                        - Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

                                          Prepare the Icing:

                                            - While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk or sugar if needed.

                                              Drizzle and Serve:

                                                - When the rolls are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for about 10 minutes before drizzling the icing over the top.

                                                  - Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Golden Brown Cinnamon Rolls!
