Ingredients

2 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)

1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)

1 cup onion, finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

8 slider buns

1 cup coleslaw mix (optional for topping)

Pickles (optional for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Pork: Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels. Rub it all over with the smoked paprika, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, chili powder, and cayenne pepper (if using). Ensure the spice mix coats the meat evenly.

Sauté Aromatics: In a large skillet or pot over medium heat, add a splash of oil. Once hot, sauté the chopped onions and minced garlic until they are soft and translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Slow Cook the Pork: Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour the sautéed onions and garlic over the pork. Add the BBQ sauce on top, ensuring it covers the meat well. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the pork is tender and easy to shred.

Shred the Pork: Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it onto a large cutting board. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the BBQ sauce mixture to combine.

Prepare Sliders: While the pork is absorbing the flavors, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the slider buns in half and place the bottom halves on a baking sheet.

Assemble Sliders: Generously spoon the pulled pork mixture onto each bottom bun. Top with coleslaw if desired, then place the top buns over the pork. You can brush the tops with a little melted butter for extra flavor and to help them brown.

Bake: Bake the sliders in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the buns are lightly toasted and the filling is warmed through.

Serve and Enjoy: Remove the sliders from the oven, allow them to cool slightly, and serve them with pickles on the side.
